People find it hard to visualise extremely high numbers and value. Germany’s gross domestic product (GDP) is 3.1 trillion dollars. Can you visualise that number? By BENJAMIN FREDRICH

Even attempting to imagine that number in the form of goods and services is very difficult. It would represent either: 155 million VW Golfs, 206 million trips around the world, 442 thousand Leopard Panzers from Krauss-Maffei-Wegmann or 17 trillion lollypops. Can you imagine this?

People can often only imagine such magnitude using a comparable entity. In the case of national economies, it is reasonable to compare them to other national economys. The numbers might remain unimaginable, but it is possible to get a rough idea of them.
